The Toyota Tacoma is a powerful and sophisticated midsize truck that brings style, capability, and impressive performance to the road year after year. Although there’s a lot to love about the Tacoma, one of our favorite things about it is just how well it can take you off-road and let you fully slake your thirst for outdoor adventure. When you come to us looking for a Toyota Tacoma for sale near Elizabethtown, however, you will quickly discover a large number of different trim levels available. Some of the most notable are those that have been developed (at least partially) by Toyota Racing Development (TRD); a quick look at these trims will reveal six different options to choose from. So today, we’re going to look at each of these TRD trims and help you sort out what each of them has to offer.

2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD PreRunner

Kicking things off, we have the Toyota Tacoma TRD PreRunner, which you can see as the entry-level option if you’re interested in one of these TRD trims. We’ll say upfront that this is not the one to choose if you’re looking for extreme off-road performance, but it’s a great pick for casual use. This trim is powered by the standard 2.4L i-FORCE turbocharged engine that provides 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. You get an eight-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission on this trim, plus rear-wheel drive with a locking differential. The TRD PreRunner comes with an independent double-wishbone front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension, plus you get 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires for great traction in rough conditions.

Inside the TRD PreRunner, you’ll find fabric-trimmed seating, including six-way driver and front-passenger seats, plus a leather-trimmed steering wheel. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster screen is included, along with an eight-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia display with a four-speaker sound system. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard with a Pre-Collision System, Proactive Driving Assist, and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control that is perfect for getting around Elizabethtown each day. Overall, this is a great truck with some light off-road functionality, which makes it a terrific choice for many drivers.

2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport

If you’re interested in a few upgrades and enhancements for your truck, along with some light off-road capabilities, then the TRD Sport is a great choice. This model has the same 278 hp engine and also comes with rear-wheel drive, though Toyota’s 4WDemand part-time four-wheel drive system is available if you want enhanced capabilities. This system features an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case, which gives you high and low ranges that are perfect for handling different situations out on the trail. You can choose either a six-speed intelligent manual transmission or the standard eight-speed automatic. This is ideal if you like to be in total control out on the trail.

Every TRD Sport comes with a spacious Double Cab along with standard 18-inch wheels, though you can choose between a five-foot and six-foot bed to get the kind of cargo space you prefer. Inside, you’ll find fabric seating, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and the same displays as the TRD PreRunner, though this trim comes with a six-speaker sound system. Available options let the TRD Sport truly shine, with packages that give you a lot more to enjoy than you can get with the previous TRD trim. SofTex seating is available with an eight-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. You can also get a larger 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia display with a 10-speaker JBL sound system if you choose the right package.

2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road

The TRD Off-Road is, as its name suggests, a great pick if you’re looking for enhanced off-road capabilities along with many of the same available features as the previous trim. Every TRD Off-Road comes standard with Toyota’s 4WDemand system rather than it being an optional feature. A stabilizer disconnect mechanism is available, though not standard, if you want greater suspension articulation out on the trail.

You get 17-inch TRD Off-Road alloy wheels on this truck, wrapped in all-terrain tires, along with a composite front skid plate and protection for the transfer case and fuel tank underneath. Inside, your features and options are pretty much identical to the TRD Sport, with the same standard displays and seating, plus available packages that let you get a larger screen, enhanced sound system, and more. The off-road suspension on this trim features Bilstein monotube shocks with remote reservoirs and is a big part of taking your off-road experience to the next level.

2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport i-FORCE MAX

If you’re looking for big power and performance, then this is where you should start. This trim (and the ones that follow) comes with an i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain that delivers 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, giving you far more power for tearing up the trail. You won’t find a manual transmission here since that’s only offered with the standard engine, but otherwise, this is a fantastic way to go. This version of the TRD Sport comes with 18-inch wheels and LED exterior lighting, including bed illumination. Interior features are a lot like the standard TRD Sport, with fabric-trimmed seating and the same displays, plus similar packages and available features to enhance what you can get.

2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road i-FORCE MAX

In much the same way that the previous trim improves the performance of the TRD Sport, this is the comparable TRD Off-Road variant. It comes with the more powerful hybrid engine, though you get an electronically controlled locking rear differential on this one, plus enhanced off-road tech features like Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and more. This trim comes with the Bilstein shocks that you find on the standard TRD Off-Road trim, plus the same underbody protection and 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Interior details are a lot like the TRD Off-Road and TRD Sport, with similar standard features and plenty of available options. If you’re trying to decide between this and the previous trim, we generally recommend this one for more serious off-roaders.

2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro

Finally, we come to the TRD Pro, which is the pinnacle TRD trim and the one to look at if you want the best capabilities and features available. This option comes standard with the powerful hybrid engine (there’s no version of it offered with the standard powertrain), along with incredible 2.5-inch FOX internal bypass shocks with rear piggyback-style remote reservoirs. This suspension is incredible and beautifully tuned to handle the roughest conditions and anything the trail throws at you. You get all of the great off-road features of the previous trim, along with a stabilizer disconnect mechanism and a TRD performance cold air intake.

This model comes with TRD Pro 18-inch wheels wrapped in massive Goodyear Territory tires for incredible grip in all kinds of conditions. You get a TRD Pro aluminum skid plate and underbody protection, plus a reinforced rocker protector, a high-clearance front bumper, and a steel rear bumper. Inside, you’ll find an incredible cabin that includes TRD Pro SofTex-trimmed IsoDynamic seating with heated and ventilated front seats, a heated leather-trimmed steering wheel, and a wireless charging pad. This trim comes with a 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia screen and 10-speaker JBL sound system, plus more great features to enjoy as you drive around Elizabethtown each day.

The TRD PreRunner is the way to go if you’re looking for a light-duty off-road pickup. If you want more capability, then consider the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road, along with their hybrid variants. Finally, the TRD Pro is the high-end trim designed to take off-road performance to another level entirely.
