Are you looking to buy a new pickup truck this year? There are many great vehicles out there, but there's one that we believe you should keep your eye on when shopping with us here at Toyota of Bowling Green, your premier Toyota dealer near Morgantown, and that is the 2024 Toyota Tundra. We love this rugged workhorse, and Morgantown drivers who have had the privilege of owning one of this year's best vehicles would agree. Let's discuss why Morgantown drivers love the 2024 Toyota Tundra and why you could be the next to experience this incredible vehicle for yourself.

Turbocharged V6 Engines Under Every Hood

One of the reasons why Morgantown drivers love their 2024 Tundra is because you'll get a turbocharged V6 engine in any configuration, including the hybrid model. The 2021 model was the last one to utilize a fuel-starving 5.7L V8 engine, and it's great that they did because both turbocharged V6 engines that have been in place since the 2022 model outperform the V8 engine in horsepower, torque, and fuel efficiency. It gets better: the turbocharged V6 engines in the 2024 Tundra also have higher towing and payload capacities than older models with the V8 engine, and feature a 10-speed automatic transmission instead of a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The turbocharged 3.4L i-FORCE V6 engine under the hood of the non-hybrid 2024 Tundra produces between 358 to 389 hp—the former is what you get with the SR trim, with each following trim receiving the latter results. The same can be said for the torque output, with the SR receiving a variant of the turbocharged V6 engine with 406 lb-ft of torque, while the other trims have an output of 479 lb-ft of torque. With the V6 engine standard, the base Tundra has a maximum towing capacity of 12,000 lbs, with a maximum payload capacity of 1,940 lbs.

Compared to the best-selling pickup truck in America, the Ford F-150, the Tundra, in its base configuration, can handle 3,600 lbs more during towing, or a 43% increase. Compared to the Chevy Silverado 1500, another truck near the list of top-selling vehicles, the base Tundra can tow 26% more weight, with the Silverado 1500 only sporting a standard towing capacity of 9,500 lbs. If you're buying a pickup truck because you'll be utilizing its towing capabilities, whether that's driving your boat to the lake for a day on the Green River or hauling something to Rochester or Huntsville, the Tundra gives you ideal base-level performance that doesn't leave any stone unturned.

With the available hybrid powertrain, included is a 3.4L i-FORCE MAX turbocharged V6 engine, which incorporates a 1.87 kWh battery rated at 288V and an electric motor contributing 48 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque to the mix. Combined with the turbocharged V6 engine, the hybrid 2024 Tundra models output 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque, which are higher than the non-hybrid variant supplies. Towing and payload capacities are slightly lower; the payload capacity is 1,680 lbs, which is still respectable for a hybrid powertrain. However, compared to the 2024 F-150's hybrid powertrain, the Tundra has a larger maximum towing capacity of 11,450 lbs instead of 11,200 lbs in the F-150. Both powertrains will make full use of your Class IV tow hitch.

What's the point of a hybrid powertrain if fuel efficiency isn't great? Fortunately, there are no worries here for Tundra owners, as even the non-hybrid powertrain outputs exceptional fuel efficiency ratings. With a 2024 Tundra Hybrid, you'll get EPA-estimated ratings of 20 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway with RWD, 19 MPG in the city, and 22 MPG on the highway with 4WD.

Sticking with the traditional V6 powertrain, you get terrific fuel ratings of 18 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway with RWD, and 17 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway if your Tundra is equipped with a 4x4 drivetrain. The Tundra's fantastic fuel efficiency is great for Morgantown owners, whether you want to save money on your trips to Peabody WMA for some hunting or driving to the Bowling Green-Woodhurst Airport down south.

The TRD Off-Road Package

The TRD Off-Road package is one of the best available packages for the 2024 Tundra. Not every trim supports it, and it's not to be confused with the TRD-Pro trim, which is an off-roading focused trim that includes a specialized off-road suspension, FOX shocks, 18-inch All-Terrain tires, a 1.1-inch front lift, standard 4x4, an rear electronic locking differential, the Multi-Terrain Select system is included, with an additional mode for rock crawling called Crawl Control. If the TRD-Pro has all of this by default, what does the TRD Off-Road package have?

As mentioned, the TRD Off-Road package doesn't apply to every trim. Some of the trims it doesn't apply to include the base SR trim and the TRD Pro, the latter of which is because it already has everything you need. For trims that support the TRD Off-Road package, adding it to your Tundra costs around $1,885, but it makes a world of difference regarding off-roading capabilities. If you frequent off-roading areas like the B&J Off-Road Park over by Bowling Green, you'll want your Tundra to have either the TRD Off-Road Package or opt for the TRD Pro trim.

With the TRD Off-Road package, you get the off-road suspension from the TRD-Pro trim, all-terrain tires, and skid plates, including one on the front, along with Bilstein shocks and mudguards. And, with the package, you also get pedals made of aluminum and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Only Tundra models with any TRD badging, the trim or package, come with an exclusive bedside decal. As a fun and aesthetically pleasing touch, your push-to-start button is bright red – a more enjoyable and stylish color for a power button or switch.

Wireless Connectivity and an Available 14-Inch Infotainment Touchscreen

The advantages the 2024 Tundra has over its competitors go as far as the tech integrated into the foundation of the experience. The more cost-effective Tundra trims come with an 8-inch infotainment center, which is a decent screen size, but the real star of the show is wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming standard. Wireless connectivity built directly into the infotainment center, not to mention an available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, gives every Tundra a sense of modernism that's lacking in vehicles that still use the wired versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also standard is a 4.2-inch Multi-Information Display located near your gauges, which is a traditional analog solution that's complemented by the small screen.

The analog gauges can be replaced with a digital solution via the available 12.3-inch digital meter. You have greater flexibility with the 12.3-inch digital meter that replaces the analog gauges because it allows for customization, such as which gauges you'd like displayed and how you'd like to display them, along with options to show your navigation, fuel economy, music, and more. A digital solution to fuel reading also means that you can check on how your vehicle is holding up efficiency-wise with accurate fuel economy readings. And, with the help of your favorite navigation app, you can reach your destination with confidence.

However, the real star of the show is the available 14-inch infotainment center. Remember what we said about modernity? With the 14-inch infotainment center combined with all of the best features, like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Tundra takes that idea of modernity to new heights.
