2024 Toyota 4Runner Specifications

A red 2024 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro is angled left.

The midsize crossover SUV is dominated by a lot of great vehicles, and one of those happens to be the Toyota 4Runner, which has had multiple generations to build out a noteworthy and respectable legacy since its original debut back in 1984. The popularity of the 4Runner has managed to sustain throughout the years thanks to regular updates, new features, and frequent refreshes over the course of five generations. The three-row 2024 Toyota 4Runner offers a lot of great content coming off a big year with the 2023 model.

For 2024, the Toyota 4Runner carries over many of the same features from the outgoing model year, including the inclusion of the Blind Spot Monitor system along with the Rear-Cross Traffic Alert that is now standard across the entire trim line-up. There is also the addition of a brand new exterior color for the 4Runner in the form of the Terra color for the TRD Pro. The Terra color is available alongside other colors available for the 4Runner, including Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Classic Silver Metallic, Underground, Nautical Blue Metallic, Midnight Black Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic, and Solar Octane.

You can also get the 2024 Toyota Runner in seven different trims, starting with the base SR5 trim, followed by the TRD Sport, the SR5 Premium, the TRD Off-Road, the TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, and the TRD Pro. These trims offer different features to compete with other midsize crossovers, such as the Chevy Blazer, the Ford Edge, and the Honda Passport. With the 2024 4Runner, however, you have a lot of great technology, performance capabilities, and convenience that appeal to a wide range of different drivers.

Capabilities

A white 2024 Toyota 4Runner Limited is shown from the side driving on a dusty trail.

The 2024 4Runner has a single powertrain available in two different drivetrain configurations. The midsize SUV is powered by a 4.0-liter V6 that produces 270 hp at 278 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired up with a 5-speed automatic transmission and is available both as a rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive SUV so that you can make use of the 4Runner as a daily driver for the family, for travel utility, or off-road recreation. You can also expect to get 16 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway.

Suspension

The capabilities are designed to take the 4Runner off the beaten path and utilize the part-time or full-time four-wheel drive features for improved traction control and stability management. This is also made possible by the TRD Sport's X-REAS suspension system. This dynamic system provides you with articulation, ground clearance, and jounce reduction so that you can maintain control over the 4Runner regardless of the terrain or weather-affected roads.

Drive Through a Variety of Terrains With Ease

With the locking rear differential, you can also gain additional traction control, which is great for using technically advanced systems like Crawl Control for hill climbs or rock crawls. You can also easily select how the 4Runner performs on or off the road with the Multi-Terrain Select system, which allows you to choose how the vehicle behaves depending on the road and weather conditions. The 4Runner is also capable of towing varied types of cargo thanks to its towing capabilities that enable it to handle up to 5,000 lbs worth of cargo, making it a perfect solution for bringing ATVs or motorcycles out to the dirt tracks, or a canoe or two out for a local river run.

Convenience

Relaxing and having fun while driving should be possible even in a very utility-focused vehicle. With the 4Runner, Toyota has taken convenience and comfort features into serious consideration in this regard by not only making it extremely practical for towing, off-road use, or overlanding, but they have also made it extremely convenient for daily driving and recreational use as well. This is all very important because the 4Runner is designed to seat up to seven available passengers across three rows, which makes it a great vehicle with a lot of capacity.

Seating Configurations

The 4Runner can be outfitted as a five-passenger or a seven-passenger three-row vehicle. If you opt for the seven-passenger variant, you can seat people across three different rows, with two captain chairs in the first row, a split bench in the second row that seats three, and two chairs in the third row. The added benefit of the 4Runner is that you can fold down the second and third rows based on how you need to use the cargo volume to store items and supplies.

Cargo Volume

In terms of cargo capacity, with the five-passenger 4Runner, you have up to 47.2 cu.ft. of cargo volume available behind the second row with the seats up, but if you fold the seats down, you have up to 89.7 cu.ft. of cargo volume to make use of with the seats folded down. For the three-row 4Runner, you have 9 cu.ft. of space behind the third row with the seats up, but you can fold down the third row and make use of 46.3 cu.ft. of cargo capacity, or up to 88.8 cu.ft. of cargo volume with the second and third row folded so that you can fit large furniture, items, supplies, or tools inside the vehicle across the massive space.

Seating Enhancements

There are also available fabric, SoftTex, and leather-trimmed seating options for the different trims, which include the availability of heated and ventilated seats. You even have an available 8-way power adjustable driver seat with a 4-way power front passenger seat and lumbar support. There are even multiple storage compartments, up to 12 cup holders, a sliding cargo deck, and even an available moonroof for those who desire it. This ensures you have a very comfortable and relaxing ride, whether on a dirt trail, on a smooth street, or along a pot-hole-filled highway. Regardless of the obstacles, the 4Runner is still designed to give you a lot of comfort.

Safety / Tech

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner comes with great tech sprinkled throughout the cabin, along with plenty of safety and security features to ensure you and any passenger feel safe going from one destination to the next. Every 4Runner comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense and compatibility with the Connected Services suite. The Star Safety System also comes standard, featuring vehicle stability control, anti-lock brakes, and electronic brake force distribution to help maintain a smooth and stable ride.

Toyota Safety Sense

Additionally, the Toyota Safety Sense offers a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, so the system actively keeps an eye on the road even when you can't see what it does. Added features like the Backup Camera help with parking or reversing out of areas where obstacles might be present, and the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection can warn you before there is a potential accident, which is further mitigated with Automatic Emergency Braking. You have Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control that can help maintain distance between vehicles on the road when cruise control is active.

Connectivity

With the Safety Connect systems, you also have an Emergency Assistance Button in case of an accident and easy access to the Toyota Roadside Assistance service, which you can access easily from within the cabin of the 4Runner. This also works with features like the Destination Assist that can help you route a destination to a specific point or help you out in case you get lost. And with the Wi-Fi 4G LTE connected hotspot services, you can stay connected even when you're away from standard networks. The 4Runner can also make use of remote access for locks, security, and vehicle health.

The digital driver display inside the vehicle can also provide you with vehicle health information and telemetry support. In addition to that, you have an 8-inch HD touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity for wireless streaming and media access, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Advanced voice recognition, premium audio, and SiriusXM are all available, so you can listen to your favorite podcasts, stations, and personalities while you travel to your destinations.
